There’s nothing quite like a greyhound in peak form, and our Dog of the Day, Hat Trick Bucko, is a perfect example of a runner who has truly found his stride. This fawn dog put on a commanding performance at Hove to seal a well-deserved victory and cement his status as a hound to watch.
Today’s Winning Performance
On October 31st, 2025, Hat Trick Bucko lined up in Race 9, a competitive A1 contest over the standard 500m trip. Despite the going being significantly slow (+30), he was sent off as the 2/1 favourite, and he didn’t let his backers down.
Breaking from trap four, Bucko showed his trademark early pace (3.55) to get into the mix immediately. The race comments tell the story of a dog in complete control: “early pace, middle, soon led.” He quickly asserted his dominance, taking the lead and never looking back, crossing the line 2¾ lengths clear of his rival, Yougo Freddie, and stopping the clock in a very respectable 29.14 seconds.
In a race where several others faced crowding and trouble, Bucko’s clean, powerful run was a masterclass in front-running.
A Hound in Hot Form
This latest victory is no flash in the pan; it’s the culmination of a string of excellent performances. A glance at his lifetime form reveals a dog who is consistently knocking on the door.
Today’s win marks his second consecutive victory, following another first-place finish at Hove just over a week ago on October 22nd. Even more impressively, in his last seven races, he has finished either first or second six times. This level of consistency at the tough A1 grade is the mark of a serious athlete.
His running style is a key to his success. The comments are regularly filled with “EP, Mid” (Early Pace, Middle), showing his ability to begin well and maintain a strong, prominent position throughout the race, often leading by the third or fourth bend.
Why He’s Our Dog Of The Day
Hat Trick Bucko earns the title today not just for winning, but for the manner of his victory. To secure back-to-back wins, overcoming a slow track surface and putting clear distance between himself and a quality field, demonstrates a greyhound at the very top of his game.
Under the guidance of trainer D. Knight, he has developed into a model of consistency and speed. With momentum firmly on his side, Hat Trick Bucko is a name you’ll want to look out for next time he steps onto the track. For a display of pure, determined greyhound racing, he is a very worthy Dog of the Day.
Congratulations to Hat Trick Bucko and all connections!
