Welcome back to dograces.co.uk for your Sunday afternoon greyhound analysis. Today, we turn our attention to the South Coast for the 16:34 at Hove, a competitive D4 sprint over the 285m trip.
Hove’s sprint track offers a unique challenge. Unlike many other circuits where early speed guarantees success, front runners are not as heavily favored here. The configuration of the final bend can often level the playing field, giving strong-finishing dogs a genuine chance to strike late.
After a close look at the form book, one runner stands head and shoulders above the rest today.
The Selection: Mind The Mouse
Our Dog of the Day is Mind The Mouse.
Trained by M J Richards—whose kennel is currently operating at a very sharp 22.72% strike rate—this February ’22 daughter of Ballymac Lorcan is the clear standout on the clock.
The primary angle for this selection is the drop in class. Mind The Mouse has been competing in tougher environments, even trialing well and holding her own before this slight ease in grade. On March 8th, she posted a highly impressive 16.69s in a D4 contest, only narrowly missing out on the win. Simply put, she is operating at a level that her rivals today have not been able to match recently. Assuming she navigates the tricky final bend cleanly, she has the sheer pace to outclass this field.
Assessing the Rest of the Field
In sprint races, a single misstep can change everything. Here is how the competition stacks up if our selection finds trouble:
Cashout Rory – The main danger and a kennelmate to our Dog of the Day. Also trained by M J Richards, he drops into an easier race today after clocking a respectable 16.83s last time out. If Mind The Mouse gets crowded, Cashout Rory is the most likely to capitalize.
Punkrock Duchess – A consistent type who is highly familiar with this grade. However, her recent times hover around the 17.05s to 17.16s mark. While she tries hard, she will need to find a couple of lengths to challenge the selection.
Portobello Quay – Secured a win on March 7th with a 16.91s run, but this is only his third race back after a long layoff. The bounce factor could be an issue, and he looks likelier to finish in the back half of the pack today.
Shes A Judge – Looks completely out of her comfort zone in this lineup. With recent runs consistently north of 17.00s and a string of poor finishes, her prospects look practically non-existent against this caliber of opposition.
