- The Case For: The leading British hope. He was superb when winning the “1965 Chase” at Ascot earlier this season. Nicky Henderson knows exactly what it takes to win this race (having won it with Long Run and Might Bite), and Jango Baie has the high cruising speed required for Kempton.
- The Case Against: This is his first crack at the true “Grade 1 heavyweight” division over 3 miles.
3. Banbridge (Trainer: Joseph O’Brien)
- Current Odds: 14/1
- The Case For: The forgotten horse. He won this race last year (2024), staying on strongly to beat Il Est Francais. He needs good ground, and if the rain stays away, he is massively overpriced. He comes alive at Kempton.
- The Case Against: His comeback run at Cork was poor (beaten 29 lengths), but that was on heavy ground over a trip too short.
4. Il Est Francais (Trainer: Tom George)
- Current Odds: 16/1
- The Case For: Now trained in the UK by Tom George, he remains a huge talent. He finished second in this race last year and has been targeted specifically at going one better.
- The Case Against: He has been inconsistent recently and has drifted in the betting. Can he bounce back to his best?.
