Dog of the Day: Punk Rock Rose to Bloom at Hove
Our Sunday spotlight falls on the South Coast, where Hove hosts a competitive afternoon card. In the 14:23 (Race 1), the A1 contest features a bitch with electric early pace who looks ready to go wire-to-wire.
Punk Rock Rose has been knocking on the door in top-grade company, and today could be the day she firmly shuts it on her rivals.
Profile
- Name: Punk Rock Rose
- Age: Jul 2022 (3 Years Old)
- Sex: Bitch
- Colour: Brindle (bd)
- Trainer: S. Maplesden (Hove)
Racing Record & Form
An experienced and prolific winner, Punk Rock Rose boasts a formidable record of 21 wins from 60 starts, operating at a strike rate of over 30%.
Her most recent effort on November 30th was a masterclass in trapping. She fired from the boxes with a blistering 3.49s sectional (QAw), leading the field until the third bend before being pipped by Marston Jess. Clocking 30.00s in defeat shows she is running at a level that wins most A1s.
The Race Analysis: 14:23 A1 Grade (500m)
This is a high-quality affair, but the race map heavily favors our selection.
- The Break: The race comments note she is on a “regular fast start,” which will put her in “pole position.” At Hove, a 3.49s split is exceptionally fast. If she repeats that today, she clears the inside runners immediately.
- Current Form: The trainer, S. Maplesden, is operating at a healthy 20.75% strike rate, indicating the kennel is in good order.
- The Danger: Straight Shot on the inside is a “probable back marker,” which should give Rose plenty of room to cut across and dominate the rail.
Verdict: Speed kills in greyhound racing. If she produces another sub-3.50s split, she should be too far gone for the closers to catch.
