DOG OF THE DAY

Roanna Koko

**Dog Of The Day: Roanna Koko – A Star in the Making**

For today’s “Dog Of The Day,” we’re shining a spotlight on a greyhound who isn’t just winning races, but is on a seriously impressive trajectory. That dog is the exciting **Roanna Koko**.

What makes this young prospect so special? It’s all about the rapid and remarkable progression.

Roanna Koko is a relative newcomer to the track, having had only five official races (plus two trials). She announced her talent immediately, finishing a strong 2nd on her debut in an A6 race. But she didn’t stop there. She followed that up with a commanding victory in an A5, and then, in her most recent outing, she stepped up again to win an A4 race.

This means in the space of just three races, **Roanna Koko has climbed three grades** – from A6 to A3. That kind of swift ascent is a clear indicator of a greyhound with exceptional talent and a tremendous will to win.

Her latest victory in the A4 on November 3rd was a testament to her grit. From trap four, she positioned herself well mid-pack, seized the lead by the third bend, and held off a late challenge to win by a short head in a time of 29.28 seconds. Winning close battles like that builds character and proves she has the heart to match her speed.

Now, she takes on her biggest challenge yet: an **A3 race**. Given how easily she has dispatched the competition in her previous grades, there is every reason to believe she can be competitive at this higher level.

Roanna Koko is a greyhound with a very bright future. She is learning fast, improving with every run, and showing all the signs of a potential top-tier competitor. She is certainly one to watch out for today at Dunstall Park greyhounds and is sure to be a greyhound tip for many in the future. Keep your eyes on trap… this dog is going places!

**A Learning Experience for Roanna Koko**

For Roanna Koko, the race began in the worst possible way. As the race comments note, she had a “very bad break from the start,” which immediately put her on the back foot, leaving her in last place out of the traps. For many young greyhounds, such a disastrous start would spell the end of their chances, leading to a demoralising and distant finish.

However, Roanna Koko demonstrated a quality that cannot be taught: **heart.**

Instead of giving up, she dug deep and produced a tremendous effort to run on. She powered through the field, moving into second place from the second bend and holding that position all the way to the line. To recover from a last-place start to finish a credible 2nd in a competitive A3 is a significant achievement.

**Analysis and Future Outlook**

This performance tells us two very important things about Roanna Koko:

1.  **Resilience:** She possesses a fantastic racing brain and a determined attitude. The ability to overcome adversity and stay focused is a hallmark of top-class athletes.

2.  **Raw Ability:** Her sectional time of 3.19, while not as fast as the winner’s 3.08, must be viewed in context. A slow break often leads to a slower sectional as the dog is crowded or checks its pace. Her powerful finish suggests the raw speed is most definitely there.

It should be remembered, however, that she is very new to greyhound racing. With only a handful of races under her belt, she is still learning her trade. Experiencing different race scenarios—like today’s troubled start—is a vital part of her development.

While she didn’t win today, this performance solidifies our belief in her. A greyhound that can finish 2nd in an A3 after such a poor start is a greyhound with a very bright future. We quite expect her to be **formidable** in the future. Once she gains more experience and sharpens her starting technique, she will be a force to be reckoned with. Today wasn’t her day for a win, but it was a day that proved her class.
